Best Hot Yoga Essentials
Updated How we research
In a heated room the only question that matters is what your hands do once they are wet, and the answer comes down to surface chemistry rather than texture. Closed cell PVC gets slicker as it gets wet, while natural rubber and polyurethane grip better with a film of moisture on them, which is why a mat that feels merely adequate when dry can be the right pick for a heated class. A towel changes the equation entirely by giving you cotton or microfibre to grip instead, and here the numbers are weight and anchoring: around four hundred grams per square metre absorbs a full class without pooling, corner pockets or silicone dots stop the towel sliding out from under a hand mid lunge, and a towel sized to the mat rather than to the body will not bunch. Small pads for hands and knees are the cheap answer if you only lose grip in two places. A headband is there to keep sweat out of your eyes, so wicking fabric and a silicone strip beat sheer width. Cleaning matters more here than anywhere else, since a spray leaving a conditioning residue makes a hot mat dangerous, so look for one that states it dries clear. What does not matter is mat thickness.
