Acupressure mat

A mat covered in small plastic points that create firm, distributed pressure across the back or feet.

An acupressure mat is a mat or pillow covered in a grid of small plastic points, usually flower or spike shaped, that press into the skin under body weight. It is used lying on the back, standing on it barefoot, or sitting against it, most often as a few minutes of quiet stillness before or after a yoga session rather than as part of active practice.

The points spread body weight across hundreds of contact spots rather than a few, which is why lying on one generally feels like firm, distributed pressure rather than a single sharp poke once the body settles for a minute or two. Thinner mats concentrate pressure more, while a padded backing softens the sensation for a gentler first experience.

It is a relaxation and sensory prop, not a medical device, and it is not a substitute for advice from a qualified professional about any pain or health condition. A common mistake is lying down for the first time expecting instant comfort, most people find the first minute the most intense and settle in after that as the body adjusts.
